In November 2006, the FDA rendered a decision that silicone implants are safe based on the data collected for over 10 years, showing that health risks for women with silicone implants and women without silicone implants were not significant. I believe that the decision to allow women to freely choose silicone implants is in the best interest of the patient and allows the board certified plastic surgeon to provide the best results for each patient based on her desired results and her anatomy. The women most likely to choose orange county breast augmentation with silicone implants are women who are thin and have very little breast tissue. For these patients, the saline implants may show too much rippling for the patient’s preference. Silicone implants look and feel more natural but that decision should be for the patient to decide.
